Go Indonesia!

This year is the second year when I don't have independent ceremony through my entire life. And I guess I've been losing my nationalism. I am not informed on domestic affairs and couldn't care less. While at the same time, I've been filling myself with international issues-foreign music, foreign movies, foreign languages, foreign artists and their gossips. Where is my nationalism? I don't respect my country's laws, her officers, and her cultures. It's sad to say and I'm so not proud of it. But it's happening. So on this occasion I'd like to declare that I love Indonesia. Go Indonesia!

new member of the family

I haven't announced my new status. I'm an aunt now. My first ever niece: Yvonne Edria Chen. The first grandchild in our family. She's the star now. Everybody is so fussing about carrying her around. So this is the feeling of being aunt - proud.

I'm on Android!

One reason I've been away from bloggers recently is that I don't have internet connection anymore on my laptop. It's been difficult to browse blogs. Till I bought my Samsung Galaxy S3. I'm really impressed with today's technology. It's been amazing. I love my phone!
I just downloaded blogger app on it. I guess I'll be more diligent in updating my blog.
Taken with the amazing app: camera360! ^^

urban jazz crossover 2012

it's here again! it was early! (compared to last year :p). when i saw the billboard on the road, i thought it was another jazz concert considering the late-coming concert last year. but when my colleague asked me to go it was confirmed that urban jazz crossover 2012: jazz the way you like it is coming to town!

first off, i'd like to take a paragraph to thank yenty for queuing up for tickets and begging for them when they were all sold out. billion thanks!

this year, the security got tighter. no cameras is allowed! can you imagine that?!? that's the reason why i don't have pictures to brag, just this cool mug picture. however, without that taking-as-many-as-picture activity, i guess i enjoyed the concert more.

jazz experimented with keroncong, indonesia's traditional music, this year. intan soekotjo couldn't emphasize it more, she's definitely  the queen. her voice is amazing. although keroncong was being highlighted, i feel more jazz. this year was jazzier than last year's, personally.

last night, dj odotto warmed up the floor with his club house music. then came kyriz boogieman rocked the house with his rap. followed millane fernandez, andien, barry likumahuwa (he's totally cute!), yukie "pas", the legend harvey malaihollo, indra lesmana, rieka roslan, tompi and bayu risa made the best jazz concert ever. and thanks to vicky sianipar and the band. it's awesome!

so glad yenty and i keep this tradition. going to urban jazz crossover concert totally will be a routine ^^

time

it's almost a year since i moved to my current company. the initial feeling was discomfort of course, but now i feel comfortable. i enjoy meeting people and doing the work now. i still can't believe that it's been almost a year, the feeling was like it was only yesterday when i was so eager to resign from my job, but i hang on and i am still working here. pat on the shoulder.

how often we comprehend that time flies so fast. it's monday when we hardly get up from bed. it's tuesday when we think that it's so great that monday has passed. then comes wednesday, it's half of the week already. we plan where to have lunch tomorrow on thursday. and thanks God it's friday. saturday and sunday we spend them wildly. and the cycle begins again. one week passes, one month, then one year swiftly passes. will our lives slip from our fingers without our notice? cherish the moment, cherish people around you, cherish your work, and give thanks for the life we've been given. thank you.

photography of the month: february

i was so into "what i wore" project that i forgot my photography project. i admit that this pic was recently taken. i particularly like this photo. shot from my office's glass at my company's birthday party.

spore trip

that was a mad idea when mega and i finally decided to book a flight to spore. we'd been talking about this trip many times, but we only "talked" until we really made it. we didn't really plan out this trip, not like the one we had. we only named the place where we'd meet. arrival hall, that's all. fyi, i've never been to changi airport before, and if you have been to medan, you can imagine how "big" our airport is. so when mega said that we met up at arrival hall, i imagined that mega would wait for me at the one big arrival door (like what polonia airport has). stupid me for underestimating one of the most sophisticated airports in the world, we waited for each other for like an hour in different areas of arrival hall. we did finally meet up after mega got out of the arrival hall. this whole one hour, i was waiting outside and she was inside the arrival hall. duh!

we slept for like three-four hours only and unwillingly we got ourselves up and began the trip. mega yearned for mamak food for breakfast, so we went to little india and found ourselves mamak stall. we ordered cane and prata. having some space unfilled in our stomach, we called for martabak. to our surprise, it's a super martabak!
stuffed with the super martabak, we walked around little india and bugis. while taking a rest in bugis, we met this group of college students who took a movie scene in the center of bugis. while looking how they worked with those cool stuffs, i missed my college time. i missed the spirit and the excitement of youth! ha, i'm still young, but i missed my youth. T.T
eating this delicious ramen cooked by a korean woman, who can't speak english, but extremely friendly
we met up with evelyn at mrt station. this the another thing i miss living overseas-waiting for friends at station. we don't have one here in medan, so i do miss it. we then headed to evelyn's apartment and again missed the moment where i could see city's night view-the lights, the cars, the road.
my super lux dinner
after dinner photo ^^
the next day we went to uss! so great to be there!
passport pic in uss
hmm.. mega, what are you doing?!?
a hug pic!
love shrek's house
high expectation, low satisfaction
show me your kungfu
oh, c'mon.. smile charlie!
with elton john
goodbye spore, will visit you again someday ^^ and thanks eve for your hospitality <3

dilettante, part ii

still need to improve on my angle-taking and editing skills. hwaiting! ^^

piano recital

it's been a while since i attended a concert. i miss my college time when i got free exposure to music. ucsi exposed her students well. every end of semesters, music students performed various musical performances. personally i found them entertaining, fresh, artistic and fun. i never appreciated classical music, but since they have these events, i learn to appreciate it. hopefully this tradition still goes on.

so when one of my colleagues, erika, who loves classical music found this piano recital ads on newspapers and asked me, i willingly accepted it. it's a piano recital by loo bang hean, who is an adjunct lecturer at ucsi. what a small world huh?

arriving at the piano room, i was surprised to find an ivory-colored piano prepared for him to play. what a fancy man, i thought. but when he, loo bang hean, introduced himself and pieces he was about to play, he himself admitted that he was surprised to get an ivory-colored piano to play with. that night he played five pieces. i'm no music expertise, but i enjoyed his music. perhaps because the beat was quite fast, so i didn't fall asleep.

i'm happy with the music progress in medan. we have annual event for jazz lover. and lately we have more exposure to classical music too.

dilettante, part i

if you still remember i took some pics last year and made dilettante, here's  the sequence ^^

i still couldn't convince anyone to be my model, except my sis, with my little knowledge of photography. so thankful i got her. with my awkward way of photography and my sis' awakward posing, i guess this time's shot was much better than last year's.

title: short trip >_<

vw garage

it's so green!
it's a very old vw garage. i myself have no idea whether it's still open or not. and i didn't find the courage to meet the owner. i love to see old car. and they have a few, which are awesome.

i love small cars. definitely gonna mad about this car, if only it's clean.

my first ever bruschetta

i've been dying to try this recipe since i watched julie & julia movie. i did search the recipe since then, but i never found the time to make it. now since i have a long weekend, i pushed myself to make it, with help from my sister. she was curious of it, the look and the taste. although i tried to follow every ingredients and steps written to make a good bruschetta, i just couldn't. i didn't put salt and pepper. i used coriander instead of basil. and an indonesian, i put chilli on it. and frankly it tasted better. bon appetite!
